Prospects
Chartered Accountants have the option of regular employment in all types of business enterprises, as well as self-employment. Salaries depend upon the type of employer and the personal and professional skills of the Chartered Accountant. Chartered Accountants are sought by corporate houses, consulting firms, audit firms, commercial banks, and regulatory bodies such as the Reserve Bank and the Securities and Exchange Board of India. With finance professionals being churned out possessing other professional qualifications in finance, additional qualification/certification such as treasury management could be of added advantage.
Study Route
The study pattern for the CA course has been recently changed. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has been granted government approval to introduce the Common Proficiency Test (CPT) and a new CA curriculum. A student can now sit for the CPT exam after class 12.
i. A student can register with the Board of Studies for the Common Proficiency Test after she/he has passed her/his class 10 exams.
ii. A registered student may appear in CPT after she/he has appeared in the Senior Secondary Examination (10+2 examination) conducted by an examining body constituted by law in India or
any examination recognized by the Central Government as equivalent thereto.
iii. After passing the CPT and 10+2 examination, a student may join the Chartered Accountancy
Course and undergo practical training for 3 ½ years.
The course is divided into the following two levels:
a. Professional Competence Course
b. Final Course
iv. As per the new curriculum, every aspirant has to appear for the CPT before joining the 3 ½
years practical training and pursuing the Professional Competence Course. (Whether the
candidate has appeared for 12th standard examination, or is pursuing any graduation, or is in
possession of any graduate or post graduate qualification, she/he will have to clear the CPT).
